Job Description
The Engineer, R&D will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining laboratory equipment and systems. This role involves conducting experiments, analyzing data, and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of lab results. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering principles, excellent problem-solving skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support and training to lab personnel
- Conduct research to innovate and improve existing valve designs, materials, performance, reliability, and manufacturing processes
- Analyze and interpret data to ensure accuracy and reliability of results
- Test and validate prototypes and new designs, analyzing test data and participate actively in design review
- Create and maintain technical documentation, such as test procedures and test reports
- Design, develop, and maintain laboratory equipment and systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with lab equipment
- Stay updated with industry trends, standards, emerging technologies, best practices to continuously improve product designs, development processes and regulations related to valves and fluid control systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, sales to meet project goals, customer requirements and company objectives

Requirements
If you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or related field (master’s degree preferred)
- OIQ member
- Having 3 to 5 years in a similar position preferred
- At least 3 years of experience in manufacturing preferred
- Proven experience in a manufacturing or R&D environment, ideally within valve design and development
- Proficiency with Teledyne Quiklook and Vishay data acquisition systems (an asset)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both French & English to collaborate effectively with the global Velan entities
- Basic understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science relevant to valve applications
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team, with excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- CAD software and engineering analysis tools (e.g. MATLAB)
- Experience with project management and adhering to timelines and budgets
