Pressure seal valves

Velan gate, globe, and check pressure seal valves are designed for high pressure and high temperature applications, proven in thermal and nuclear power plants worldwide. Trusted for HP steam services, they’re also ideal for hydrocarbon and petrochemical processing, ensuring reliable performance.

Designs

Molten metal in a furnace, glowing brightly. The scene depicts metal components in various stages of heating, with some parts appearing red hot, while others have a cooler, metallic appearance. The industrial setting suggests a manufacturing or foundry environment.

Body and bonnet are made from high-quality forgings throughout the size range. Available in flexible wedge gate, parallel slide gate, stop globe, y-pattern, stop check, piston check, swing check, and tilting disc check.

Pressure seal design increases the bonnet gasket loading force as internal pressure increases for use in high temperature/pressure applications. Velan's innovative live loaded bonnet bolting maintains constant load on seal gasket and is standard on NPS 6 (DN 200) and up.

Guiding system

Close-up of an abstract geometric structure featuring various colored sections, including green, blue, beige, and orange, interlocking in a complex design. The image highlights the intricate arrangement of shapes and angles.

Close attention is paid to body and disc guide tolerances to minimize the potential for galling, binding, and/or gouging during valve opening and closing. For stainless valves and high temperature service, hard-faced grooves are precision-guided within welded-in machined guides.

Live-loaded (option)

Close-up view of a mechanical component with a red, ribbed, cylindrical part sandwiched between metallic fittings, featuring bolts and a central rod, set against a light blue background.

Velan pioneered live-loaded valves in 1972 for Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) to prevent nuclear leakage and has since supplied live-loaded valves for nuclear and non-nuclear service. This technology extends low-emission service life under demanding conditions, with Belleville springs keeping the stem tight for long periods without maintenance.
